A 54-year-old apprentice’s efforts to go the extra mile for her employer have earned her a special award from Intraining during National Apprenticeship Week.

Fran Greatorex, from Chipping Sodbury, in Gloucestershire, is currently undertaking a Level 3 Health and Social Care apprenticeship with Intraining through her employer Bluebird Care.

"When Wendy told me I had an award I was really surprised. Once I started studying, I got ‘the bug’ and was eager to complete it. I did actually enjoy it and am now eager to complete level 3. I also obtained Functional Skills in English and Maths. I am really grateful to Wendy for all her help and encouragement and look forward to the next few months of studying with her.”

Fran has taken on additional calls at short notice to cover for sickness and emergencies and can always be relied upon to complete tasks in a professional manner…and always with a smile on her face.
She has also started to be part of the 'on call' rota meaning she is the voice of calm and reasoning to carers when then have an issue out of office hours.

Keen to progress her career, Fran has already completed her Level 2 qualification through Intraining.

“Fran has now started to believe in her abilities and appreciates that she is a valued member of the care team where she works,” said Wendy Young, an Assessor for Intraining, who nominated Fran for her award.

“She bends over backwards to complete tasks and it has been great to see her confidence grow. She is fully deserving of this award.”

Jack Whitfield, Managing Director Bluebird Care Chipping Sodbury, added: “I’m very pleased that Fran has won this award, she is a valued member of our team and we are all very pleased to have her with us.”
