NCG awarded silver in the new Teaching Excellence Framework

NCG has been awarded Silver for Teaching Excellence in Higher Education in the government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

Intraining is part NCG, which is one of the UK’s leading education and training providers, and the group of five colleges and two training providers was given the silver award for the excellent outcomes it has created for HE learners and the outstanding progression that many are making into highly skilled employment or further study.

Led by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, (HEFCE), the TEF awards are decided by an independent panel of experts including academics, students and employer representatives.

The TEF measures the things that students themselves say they care about: high-quality, engaged teaching and a supportive, stimulating learning environment which equips them with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their potential, and then to progress to a good job or further study.

The report also highlights that full time HE students regard NCG’s assessment and feedback processes as exemplary, a remarkable achievement because only last year, NCG became the first FE institution in the UK to be able to develop and award its own honours and master’s degrees after it was awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers from the Privy Council.

Other positives that the HEFCE highlighted about NCG include:

  • Strong commitment to widening participation and evidence of effective support for non-traditional learners
  • Consistent curriculum focus on students engagement and stretch, through a range of initiatives including Student Fellows provision
  • Strategic approach to employer engagement; exemplified by the creation of a series of Academies linked to key employers in the region
  • Novel approach to the provision of state of the art learning environments located in real world settings; exemplified by the location of Newcastle College Aviation Academy within a working airport.

This is further welcome news for Intraining following the recent launch of our new suite of IT apprenticeship qualifications to support UK businesses to be at the forefront of the digital economy. You can read more on these IT qualifications HERE.

“This is a really important milestone in developing an outstanding vocational Higher Education offer across NCG and is another example of the great work that our colleagues do in service of our purpose, to unlock potential through learning,” said Joe Docherty, Chief Executive of NCG Group.
